Researchers from CHOP, Drexel find disparities in rates of certain preterm births

Pregnant woman.

A team of researchers from Drexel University and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (including Center members Drs. Jane Clougherty and Heather Burris) studied how different circumstances of preterm birth may indicate the health of the parents and their surrounding community at a geographic level. These findings indicate the need for community level health interventions that could reduce the number of preterm births. The findings were published in early January in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

This study was supported by a pilot grant from the March of Dimes Penn Prematurity Research Center.
