Research Pilot Projects

  • In 2024, we awarded 4 pilots to researchers at Rutgers, Penn, CHOP and Thomas Jefferson University
  • Over 3 years, we awarded 14 Development Pilots totaling $370,000
  • Pilot project focus areas:

Translating the Science

Prescriptions for Prevention

  • Partnered with 3 community groups to develop prenatal and postnatal lead exposure prescriptions
  • 43 total scripts on 22 topics from lead to extreme heat
  • 8 counties represented
  • Downloadable and shareable

Translation Pilot Projects

  • Lifetime Awarded: $242,345
  • Completed Pilot This Year: Strengthening community capacity to mitigate urban heat exposure and protect children’s health in Philadelphia
  • Active Pilots:
    • Evaluating the residential lead remediation programs in Lancaster
    • Telehealth-based primary prevention of childhood lead poisoning
    • Improving environmental health literacy and empowerment for parents and teachers

Chester Community Asthma Prevention Program

  • 99 families served
  • CAPP Home Visitor Program
    • Led by Community Health Workers
    • Provides supplies to mitigate asthma triggers
    • Teaches asthma 101 classes

Asbestos Hazard Assessment Program for Schools

  • Completed assessment reports for: 10 schools with undamaged asbestos containing materials (ACM) and 4 schools with damaged ACM
  • In-person meetings are scheduled for Spring!

Academy for Environmental Exposure Reduction

  • 33% in students communicating their power to limit EDCs  in their life after the program
  • Student made educational materials shared with ~245 students and staff in represented schools

Webinars, Trainings and Community Consultations

  • Presented on environmental health consultations at 2024 NAAEE Conference
  • 29/45 environmental health consultations provided to families evaluated
  • Recorded 3 online trainings for teachers to incorporate climate change in their curriculum
  • Hosted 3 trainings for childcare providers on:
    • healthier cleaning
    • asthma care; and
    • healthy childcare environments
