This unit on environmental health was designed for elementary students grades three through five, by Kimberly Sweeny. This was developed to help students understand the important role water has in our lives and the environment. In this unit, students will learn about some major devastating examples of water contamination, like the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. Based on what they learn about these incidents, students will experiment with various materials to determine which ones are most absorbent to clean up the oil spill. The ultimate goal of this unit is to make students more aware of the impact they have on the environment and help them see they can make a difference.
