Amy Bleakley is a Professor in the Communication Department and Director of the Center for Health Communication at the University of Delaware. Her research focuses identifying psychosocial determinants of health behaviors, using theory-driven approaches to develop health messaging, and understanding how media affect a range of health-related outcomes, primarily among adolescent and emerging adult populations.
Dr. Bleakley is trained in public health and communication science and has been the PI or Co-I on numerous NIH and CDC grants, including a recent study designed to assess how exposure to different types of news and interpersonal sources affects beliefs and behaviors associated with COVID-19 (e.g., COVID-19 vaccination); and an ongoing multi-site theory-based messaging project designed to increase diversity in Alzheimer’s focused research registries.
