The first workshop of a virtual series hosted by the National Academies’ ad hoc Committee on Unequal Treatment Revisited will examine major developments over the past two decades that have contributed to the current state of racial and ethnic health care inequities; discuss the impact of such inequities among patients, families, and communities; assess the roles of clinicians and health care leaders in contributing to or mitigating the inequities in health care; and explore what could be done differently in communities to advance health care equity. This workshop series is part of a consensus study that will identify major drivers of health care disparities, gaps in the evidence base, effective interventions, and more. This work builds on the 2003 Institute of Medicine consensus report, “Unequal Treatment: Confronting Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care.”
