Approximately one in 5 U.S. children and adolescents have obesity, with large disparities present across the population. In this webinar, attendees will learn about the relationship of the neighborhood environment with obesity among children. Multiple aspects of neighborhoods will be discussed, including features of the neighborhood physical environment (built environment, food resources) and the neighborhood social environment (safety, social cohesion). Dr. Stephanie Mayne is an epidemiologist and Assistant Professor at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on the impact of environmental factors, particularly neighborhood characteristics, on child health outcomes including sleep, obesity, and mental health. She is the Associate Director of Clinical Epidemiology at CHOP’s Clinical Futures and a faculty member of CHOP’s PolicyLab. She is a member of PRCCEH.
Webinar participants who complete the evaluation and obtain an 80% or higher on the course post-test will receive a certificate for 1 nursing contact hour.
