SUMMARY:2026 ECHO Symposium: Translating Science to Action
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the NIH Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Translating Science to Action Symposium on May 6\, 2026. \nThis free event will bring together researchers\, policymakers\, health professionals\, and advocates to examine how chemical exposures affect child health and development and how science is being translated into meaningful action. \nThe symposium will focus on two critical areas of chemical exposure: plastics and air quality. Through expert-led sessions and a crosscutting panel discussion\, participants will explore how evidence on chemical exposures can inform and is informing programs\, policy\, and practice. Panelists will also address strategies for building trust and communicating scientific findings to policymakers\, health care providers\, parents\, and communities. \nThis is a hybrid event\, with a robust in-person experience designed to support connection and collaboration. Attendees joining onsite will have the opportunity to engage and network at interactive information stations hosted by researchers\, advocates\, professional organizations\, and community partners. \nWhether you attend in person or virtually\, the symposium offers evidence-based insights and practical perspectives to support healthier futures for children. \nRegister today and view the event website to explore the full agenda and speaker lineup. The event website also includes a promotional toolkit\, and we hope you will share the event with your networks.

SUMMARY:Using AI to discover meaningful knowledge from multimodal representations of longitudinal maternal/fetal health
DESCRIPTION:The Romano Lab conducts original research at the interface of clinical/translational informatics and environmental health\, with particular focus on developing new artificial intelligence (AI) models that explain the biology underlying environmental risk factors and mechanisms of disease. Other areas of research interest include autoimmune-related adverse events\, maternal environmental health\, and natural products drug discovery. Dr. Romano leads the development of several major biomedical knowledge bases\, including ComptoxAI\, VenomKB\, and the Alzheimer’s Knowledge Base. \nFollowing registration below\, a Zoom link will be emailed for the webinar. \n  \nDr. Joseph D. Romano is an Assistant Professor of Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine\, in the Department of Biostatistics\, Epidemiology\, and Informatics. He is a Senior Fellow in Penn’s Institute of Biomedical Informatics and a CEET Investigator in the Center of Excellenece in Environmental Toxicology. His research focuses on applying translational bioinformatics and artificial intelligence to environmental toxicology. Visit the Romano Lab website. \nDr. Romano earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Vermont. He then earned PhD\, MPhil\, and MA degrees at Columbia University where his dissertation focused on using computational approaches to discover therapeutic properties from proteins found in animal venoms.
