SUMMARY:Prenatal diet and health: A research journey
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will review the evolution of public health guidelines regarding fish consumption for pregnant women and children. It will include a discussion of the potentially beneficial nutrients and harmful toxicants commonly found in fish\, as well as how efforts to communicate this nuanced message have influenced health behaviors. \nA short Q&A will follow the presentation. \nThe Pediatric Environmental Health Center at Boston Children’s Hospital and the New England Region Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU) welcome health professionals to attend the monthly virtual Pediatric Environmental Health (PEH) Grand Rounds.

SUMMARY:The Race to Research: Plastic\, Microplastics\, and Human Health
DESCRIPTION:Megan J. Wolff\, PhD\, MPH\, will deliver dynamic and in-depth lecture on what is known – and what is being researched – about the impacts of plastics on human health. Recent findings about the impacts of plastic on human health demonstrate that plastic pollution is not just a litter problem\, but a health one. As researchers follow the path of microplastics into the ecosystem and into us\, they are coming to understand the hazards that these chemical particles present to living tissue\, and they are raising alarms. Plastic is ubiquitous in our lives\, and there is little way for individuals to avoid exposure. But solutions do exist – and they are within our reach. Come learn about what they are\, and what you can do to bring them about. \n  \nRegister for this Seminar:\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n OrganizationJoin our mailing list? SUMMARY:Environmental Policy and Public Health: Connections and Consequences
DESCRIPTION:Hear the words “environmental policy\,” and many people think of protecting threatened species\, like the spotted owl\, the wolf\, the whales. Or they think of trees and parks and wilderness areas and being able to spend time outdoors. In fact\, the nation’s environmental laws—the Clean Air Act\, the Clean Water Act\, and others—are some of the most powerful tools we have to protect public health. This talk will explore the connection between the laws the US Environmental Protection implements and our health and examine the public health impacts of past and more recent policy decisions.

SUMMARY:EDCs & Reproductive Health: Effects of chemical mixtures on ovarian function
DESCRIPTION:Up to 15% of women of reproductive age are infertile\, with ovarian disorders as a leading cause. These disorders include primary ovarian insufficiency\, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)\, anovulation\, and aneuploidy. \nThe underlying mechanisms of ovarian dysfunctions remain largely unknown\, but studies have shown links to exposure to environmental endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) including dioxins\, phthalates\, bisphenols\, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)\, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Most prior research focuses on exposure to a single EDC\, but in the real world people are exposed to complex EDC mixtures. \nIn this EDC Strategies Partnership/Young EDC Scientists Showcase (YESS) webinar\, Dr. Shuo Xiao will introduce his lab research that focuses on integrating in vivo\, in vitro\, and in silico models to study the impacts of real-world EDC mixtures on female ovarian function\, reproductive outcomes\, and the molecular mechanisms involved. \nDr. Xiao is the 2025 winner of the Lou Guillette\, Jr Outstanding Young Investigator Award from Healthy Environment and Endocrine Disruptor Strategies (HEEDS)\, a program of Environmental Health Sciences. This award is given yearly in honor of Dr. Lou Guillette Jr. (1954-2015) to a young investigator who embodies Lou’s love of science\, communication and commitment to mentoring. \nThis webinar will be moderated by Sarah Howard\, Program Manager at HEEDS.

SUMMARY:Maternal Health\, Climate\, and Plastics Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This one hour webinar with Dr. Jane van Dis\, MD\, OBGYN and Co-Founder of the Physician & Scientist Network Addressing Plastics and Health (P-SNAP) will cover how microplastics and plastic-associated chemicals impact maternal physiology and fetal development. It will also explore evidence-based strategies for discussing these risks with patients and actionable steps to reduce plastic use and carbon footprint in medical practices. This webinar will be especially useful for OBGYNs\, nurses\, midwifes\, or primary care providers. Click here to learn more.

SUMMARY:The Politics of Well-being: Place and Well-being
DESCRIPTION:Where we live matters. Join us for the next session in the Politics of Well-Being series\, exploring the geography of well-being: how neighborhood infrastructure\, environmental justice\, urban design\, and housing access shape physical and mental health. This conversation will examine how place-based policies can foster or undermine equitable outcomes — and how communities reclaim agency over space. \nFeatured Speakers: \n🔹 Millan AbiNader\, MSW\, PhD – Assistant Professor\, SP2\n🔹 Alice Xu\, PhD – Assistant Professor\, SP2\n🔹 Moderator: Rebecca Del Rossi\, MSW
