SUMMARY:Extreme temperatures\, neighborhood opportunity\, and pediatric primary care outcome
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, Dr. Stephanie Mayne from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will present results from a PRCCEH-funded pilot study examining the association of extreme temperatures with missed pediatric preventive visits. Additional research examining the relationship of neighborhood context\, assessed using the multidimensional Child Opportunity Index\, with primary care utilization\, obesity\, mental health\, and adolescent risk factors will be presented as well. \nDr. Mayne\, PhD\, MD\, is an epidemiologist whose research focuses on the relationship of neighborhood environmental exposures with child well-being\, including outcomes such as sleep\, mental health\, and obesity. Her recent work uses intensive longitudinal methods including location tracking\, ecological momentary assessment\, and actigraphy to better assess environmental exposures that vary through time and space and their relationship to sleep among adolescents. \n  \nRegister for this Seminar:\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n OrganizationJoin our mailing list? SUMMARY:The Race to Research: Plastic\, Microplastics\, and Human Health
DESCRIPTION:Megan J. Wolff\, PhD\, MPH\, will deliver dynamic and in-depth lecture on what is known – and what is being researched – about the impacts of plastics on human health. Recent findings about the impacts of plastic on human health demonstrate that plastic pollution is not just a litter problem\, but a health one. As researchers follow the path of microplastics into the ecosystem and into us\, they are coming to understand the hazards that these chemical particles present to living tissue\, and they are raising alarms. Plastic is ubiquitous in our lives\, and there is little way for individuals to avoid exposure. But solutions do exist – and they are within our reach. Come learn about what they are\, and what you can do to bring them about. \n  \nRegister for this Seminar:\n\n \n \n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n OrganizationJoin our mailing list? SUMMARY:The Enduring Legacy of Lead Poisoning
DESCRIPTION:PRCCEH is proud to welcome Dr. Bruce Lanphear of Simon Fraser University to kick off the Fall 2024 seminar series.  This hybrid event is Friday\, September 13 at 10am Eastern. \nBruce Lanphear\, MD\, MPH\, a physician and professor at Simon Fraser University\, lives on Bowen Island\, British Columbia in the Salish Sea. Bruce led influential studies used by federal agencies around the world to set standards for harmful levels of lead in air\, paint\, water\, and house dust. His research convinced public health agencies that no safe level of lead could be identified. He has studied dozens of toxic chemicals and conducted over a dozen randomized controlled trials reducing exposures to lead paint\, tobacco smoke\, pesticides\, and airborne pollutants. Bruce and his brother\, Bob\, co-founded Little Things Matter to disseminate research on toxic chemicals. They produce videos showing how our health is inextricably linked with environmental influences with the goal of preventing disease. \n  \nRegister here for In-Person and Virtual Attendance
